Silas and Victoria are getting married!
Our Love Story
Silas and Victoria's (Tori’s) journey began at Hillsong College in Australia in 2021, during the height of the COVID pandemic. They were part of the same online classes, and it quickly became clear to everyone that Tori was a free-spirited, creative soul who loved people, while Silas was an unapologetically critical yet endearing German.
The first time they met in person was at a class outing to see Shang-Chi (a movie Silas thought was “not that great” and Tori found “amazing”) [Note Tori: I didn’t think it was AMAZING, I just love movies, Marvel, asian representation and new friends]. True to his practical nature, Silas brought snacks to the theatre—a bag of carrots. Tori found it both hilarious and practical. [T: With my complex dietary requirements, a carrot was surprisingly the perfect movie snack]. She was the only one in the class who asked for some of his carrots, and thus, a quirky first connection was made.
That same evening, Tori shared her passion for daily journaling—she was keeping five journals at the time. Intrigued, Silas asked her all about it. His goal of proving to himself that he could remember even the most boring facts was misinterpreted by Tori for genuine interest in her life.
As college slowly came back to being in person, they shared almost every class in common and began hanging out occasionally in between, but let’s be clear: no sparks were flying—at least not yet. Tori made sure to make it clear to Silas early on that they were JUST friends. [T: I can come across as quite friendly, so I was just making sure not to send the wrong message... especially because I REALLY wanted to play an exit game with him that he said he had and I needed to lay the friend-zone foundation before expressing my escape room obsession.] In fact, a short while later, she even started dating Silas’s housemate. [S: that’s next level friendzoning]. Silas and Tori didn’t hang out as much during this time and their class timetables changed.
When Tori went through her break up, Silas saw her need for some good friends and it felt like their friendship naturally resumed as they started hanging out again. [T: This is when Silas introduced Arcane to the group and I hosted the watch parties].
They enjoyed spending time together, appreciating how different they were from each other. [T: it felt like I was able to feel like a kid again when I was with him. It felt so fun, uncomplicated and safe]. They also collaborated musically, writing and producing songs with their mutual best friend Spencer. [S: So much Fun] [T: for our final assessment in song writing we had to create an EP each and we spent hours in the music room together] Their frequent time together led to some campus gossip—people assumed they were dating, though neither of them shared that thought.
At one point, Silas confronted Tori with a question that changed everything:
“Since people think we’re dating, even though we don’t think we are... what is the difference between being being best friends and dating?”
This, paired with Silas admitting he could see himself dating her, sent Tori into a whirlwind of thoughts and spirals. [T: With this box opened, I started to look at Silas differently and discover that maybe the most important trait for a life partner is trust and friendship, and I suddenly realised what we had unintentionally built between us was exactly that]. They decided to explore a “pre-dating” phase. But when Tori pressed Silas to make a decision—dating or no dating—he hesitated. True to his cautious nature, [S: it was hard, I knew Tori was very different to me. I wasn’t able to tell if we could actually work] Silas told her he couldn’t confidently say yes, so it had to be a no.
Tori was heartbroken, as she grieved what could have been and her new found feelings, but at least their friendship wasn’t ending so she decided to move forward and keep her heart open.
While out evangelizing on the streets of Sydney one day, a young man began flirting with Tori [S: I was there]. When he asked if Silas was her boyfriend, Silas confidently replied, 'Definitely not.' Seizing the opportunity, the young man asked Tori on a date.Tori thought, I deserve someone who knows what they want and agreed to go on a date with him.
This news hit Silas hard. Every time Tori talked about her upcoming date, he felt physically ill. It dawned on him that he couldn’t bear the thought of her with someone else. For the first time, Silas realized Tori wasn’t just a good friend—she might actually be the one. The pizza of his life.
Before Tori went on her second date with the other guy, Silas mustered the courage to speak up. He poured his heart out, telling her how much he missed her and what she truly meant to him.
Tori didn’t make it easy for him. [T: Well he was a bit too late wasn’t he and didn’t he miss his chance??] She questioned whether his feelings were genuine and wondered if he could be the one who could love her well. But as you already know, the other guy was out, and Silas was in. [T: When I asked Silas if he believes he can love me well, he told me that he doesn’t know if he can, but he knows God can and he's fully committed to Him... so surely God will teach him how to love well.]
Soon after, Tori told Silas that her heart was officially available to him. They started dating [T: The best first date ever—and still the best so far, haha], and two weeks later, they made it official as boyfriend and girlfriend.
When Silas’s time in Australia came to an end, Tori made the bold decision to follow him to Germany. She sacrificed her familiar world for the future they are living in now. [S: Thank you babe]
Engaged and excited to start a life together—a life that honors God and brings Him joy.
Afterword
Since moving to Germany, Tori has had the chance to truly immerse herself in Silas’ world—his family, his culture, and the little things that make him who he is. She’s shared precious moments with his loved ones, including his dear uncle and Opa, whose kindness, faith and wisdom left a lasting impact. Through it all, she’s come to understand which parts of Silas are purely him, which are shaped by German traditions, and which are woven into the fabric of his family.
Life together has been an adventure—one filled with laughter, deep conversations, and, of course, the occasional disagreement. But every challenge has only brought them closer, strengthening their love and understanding. Tori is grateful to have a job she loves, and Silas is pursuing his passion for physics. They may not always see eye to eye—Silas still isn’t a movie fan, and Tori has yet to be convinced that physics is fun—but they always find common ground in the things that matter most, like creating a home together, growing in faith, and sharing in the beauty of worship.
As they step into this next chapter, they do so with hearts full of love and excitement. Their journey together is still just beginning, and they can’t wait to see where it leads. ❤️
